On 11/4/06 Gina (North Star Founder) was able to meet up with Lucky and
his adopter Susie for a visit. Lucky was in great spirits and happy as a
clam. His bones have mended but he does have a little trouble with the
flexibility of the joint at one paw- but he walks and runs just fine! He
is a far stretch from the sad pictures taken 2 years ago- almost to the
day! Thank you to everyone that made this possible!

4/20/2005 Update
see 12/12 update for full story
here
Lucky (formerly named Whitefeather) appeared in the Winter 2005 issue of
United Animal Nations Journal. See the article
HERE. He
is still making progress and is a great companion for Susie, his new Mom.
4/20 Susie says: Thought I’d
check in and let you know that Lucky had a final set of xrays taken and
Dr. Jackson is happy with the results. He said to keep up the exercise
and hopefully over time his left wrist will become more flexible. Lucky
is getting more and more courageous with his running and playing with
other dogs. He loves chasing dogs at the park….he isn’t very fast, but
you can tell he has lots of heart. Yesterday he did get neutered…..he’s
doing ok. He is not fussing with the souters at all, he is such a good
boy. He wants so much to play, but my vet said to keep him quiet for 5
days.
1/8/2005 A message from Lucky's adopter!
Great day….they took Lucky’s pins out!!!!! The bone graft is taking
and has bridged the gap that existed from the break. We go back in 2
weeks for a recheck and another set of x-rays. He is crashed out
right now as they had to sedate him to take the pins out. Also, he has
put on 10 pounds….he doesn’t shed as much either.
This is great news for Lucky - as many of you know it has been a
roller coaster ride wondering what would happen to his left leg!
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers that he will heal and
always remain safe from injury ever again!

Whitefeather is now in his new home. Earlier this week he
had an early evening surgery to repair his 2 broken legs.
Scroll down for donation information and more pictures!.
The cast/bandages
are off of his right leg. He has good range of motion in his elbow
and wrist on the right side. The left side is much more stiff. The
external fixators are wrapped in gauze and stretchy bandages.
Thursday 12/23
Whitefeather will have
the bandages changed. He is a bit timid and unsure since he has been
moved again. He's gone from the shelter to the first vet (AHN) where
he had a surgery then to a foster home then back to AHN for a second
surgery then back to the foster home then back to AHN for a recheck
then he ended up spending a night or 2 before being relocated to the
specialty vet 2 hours away. Then he spent several days there and is
now in his permanent home where he likes to lay really close to
someone's feet!! What a journey. Despite all this he still smiles
often and wags his nubby tail. He is a bit annoyed by the extra fur
they shaved off. He feels a bit naked but it will grow back soon!
Here he is waiting
for a treat from his new Grandma. You can see a part of his new pal, a
female Aussie named Shasta. "His new adopter keeps saying to him
“you are such a lucky boy”…and he wiggles his butt and smiles. She is
really leaning towards calling him "Lucky". He seems to respond well
when called that. I can't think of a more suitable name after all he
has been through. His first vet bill was $1454.59 and the
second was estimated at $4375.58-$5244.29. We were able to raise $2390
in donations thanks to all of you who donated and organized
fundraisers! We were also able to obtain a $1000 grant from
United Animal Nations. Please visit their website uan.org
they are AWESOME!! We are still accepting donations, information is
below. We hope you enjoy the new photos and we will have another
update soon! Thank you for your support it IS appreciated! There will
always be dogs like Lucky that need us and we want to be able to help.
