| Breeding ~ Responsible?
Fair? Lucrative? Kind? Necessary? If you are thinking about it please read on and then decide if you have what it takes to be a quality breeder. If you are thinking of buying a puppy READ HERE about pet stores and puppy mills. Do
you have homes prior for each pup before mating of these dogs? Will you sell
the puppies on spay/neuter contracts and be willing to legally enforce the
contracts if necessary? This means that the new owners cannot breed the
puppies and add to the over-population. Did you know that many of the dogs
that end up in shelters are purebred dogs? Do you know
Are you willing to do all pre-test for genetics of sire and dam before breeding? Are you willing to make sure that all puppies have complete genetic, health checks by your vet? Are you willing to temperament test each pup? Prior vet care includes vaccination shots, fecal and worming. If your pups have rear dew claws, are you willing to remove these? You should provide a Vet's statement with each puppy declaring that the Vet finds the puppy in good health. Do you know where your pups are in 2 YEARS? 5 YEARS? 10 YEARS? Can you keep up and know where they are and what they are doing? Do you understand that if you don't keep up on EVERY DOG you PRODUCE, that your CUTE PUPPY can wind up in a KILL SHELTER? TIED TO A FENCE, DOGHOUSE on a SHORT ROPE or CHAIN and PRODUCING MORE LITTERS? Are you prepared to screen/educate each person you sell to? Will you provide material on how to properly care for the new puppy? Are you willing to take on this RESPONSIBILITY for the LIFE of EACH PUP YOU PUT ON THE GROUND? Your pups could produce many unwanted pets in the future. Leave the breeding up to the professionals that do all of the above & much more.
Last year
five million unwanted pets were put to death in U.S.
shelters. That's 13,800 every day, 575 dogs and cats killed every hour.
